Stress Less: 6 Tips for Busy Moms

Some stress is a given in our fast-paced lives. But that doesn’t mean we have to live with it. Try these strategies to help manage stress:

SET PRIORITIES
Spend a few minutes each morning assessing the day ahead. Are there tasks you can combine, postpone or get rid of altogether? Once you’ve de-cluttered your to-do list, schedule the most important items into your day first, and then add in the less-important items around them.

GET YOUR FAMILY INVOLVED

Create a household chore chart for your family to avoid confusion and arguments. Spread everyone’s chores throughout the week to avoid weekend overload, and switch up the chores once in a while so the same person isn’t stuck with the most unpleasant jobs.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF TECHNOLOGY
Your computer is ready and willing to help you save time. Pay credit-card and utility bills online, and use drugstore websites to have prescriptions and personal-care staples delivered. Buy birthday presents online in multiples, have them sent to you gift-wrapped, and you’ll never again be caught empty-handed when child’s classmate has a party.

STOCK THE PANTRY
Keep food staples on hand for hectic days when there’s no time to make a meal from scratch. Canned tuna, beans, frozen vegetables, Ragú® Organic Traditional pasta sauce and Knorr® Homestyle Stock are all great building blocks for last-minute dinners.

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOURSELF
Whether it’s taking a walk, soaking in a hot bath or reading a good book, reserve at least half an hour every day for yourself. Write this “appointment” in your calendar and respect it as you would any other commitment.

GET ENOUGH SLEEP

Sleeping is not "doing nothing." Shortchange yourself of the eight hours you need, and you can jeopardize your memory, mental focus and health. If you have a choice at night between an extra hour of TV and an extra hour of sleep, try choosing sleep. You’ll be amazed at how much more able you are to handle stress.
