Annie - Orpheum Theatre March 31 - April 5th

Macaroni Reviews

April 3, 2015
I was beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to review Annie at the Orpheum this week. Annie may have been one of my favorite childhood movies. I can't even tell you how many times I watched it. To see Annie live on stage was truly a dream. And it didn't disappoint!

I immediately fell in love with Annie, played by Issie Swickle. She did an amazing job in the role and, wow, what an amazing voice! She sang all of the hits perfectly. It was so great that I wanted to sing along (and I may have...but very quietly...in my own head). She played the role with perfection through the entire performance.

The entire cast was fabulous. Gilgamesh Taggett starred as Oliver Warbucks and his heart melted when he got to know Annie. Ashley Edler did an excellent performance as Grace. Lynn Andrews was the woman we all hate, Mrs. Hannigan. However, she mastered the role and got a well-deserved standing ovation after the performance. Sunny, a very well trained rescue dog, played Sandy. I was truly amazed at the training of a dog on a Broadway stage. It was fantastic! He even had a scene where he was the only one on the stage (and nailed it)!

The songs are still playing in my head. The sun will come out tomorrow! And you need to make sure you get your tickets to Annie. Don't miss out! If you're looking for family fun this weekend, you just found it.

You can find all performance and ticket information HERE on the Ticketmaster website. You can also purchase tickets through the box office at the State Theatre to avoid service fees.
