Low-Torque, Low-Impact Classes Start June 15th

Regan MOVES was designed by lupus and arthritis patient and mechanical engineer, Regan Birr, Regan MOVES is LOW-TORQUE, LOW-IMPACT interval exercise designed for those with chronic conditions or pain.  It is appropriate for people with arthritis, lupus, and other conditions, including fatigue, joint issues (replacements or injuries), or back issues. It is also great for those that want to get back into exercise after not exercising regularly, as well as pregnant moms or those wanting to lose some baby weight. It is cardio and strength intervals with stretching in between.  Regan’s motto is “work smarter, not harder”, and “if it hurts, stop”. She provides a balance and abdominals segment.  Partnered with the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota, scholarships for people with lupus may be available. Variable intensity: all exercises can be done from a chair, right up to a high-calorie-burning workout. If you have chronic conditions, and need an environment that understands, or want to focus on working out from a chair, this class is for you. On the other end of the spectrum, if you have joint issues or concerns, but still want a high-intensity workout, this workout is for you. Every move can be modified up and down in intensity to meet a wide variety of needs.  Learn to modify depending on how you feel.  Increase energy and decrease pain, and strengthen the muscles that support the joints. For all ages. Class is fun with great music - classic rock and the hits. This class is supported by the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota and endorsed by several rheumatologists! 

Regan is a personal trainer and this 
class is SMALL GROUP (personal) training. The atmosphere is much more intimate than a large group exercise class. Participants will receive direct personal training from the instructor and everything can be modified for you as needed. It can even be done from a chair if that is where you need to start.

Regan believes that everyone should get a good workout and keep your muscles and body healthy. Studies show that long-term effects of moderate exercise will promote anti-inflammatory effects in your body. And this program will not cause injury. These are exercises specifically meant for easing in to it or you can choose to do it at a higher intensity. You will protect your joints and you can work at your own pace. An example is that Regan does not do lunges in her class, she uses a modified exercise to still work the quads, but takes out the pressure points. When people lunge, they create TORQUE and PRESSURE POINTS on their knees, which can potentially cause harm. Regan has created ways to work the quads and other muscles of the leg without creating these pressure points which can be damaging and painful. 

 

***YOU can use a STEP to increase your intensity.   The step, and other equipment, is ALL provided by the YMCA.

Classes start on June 15th at the Emma B. Howe YMCA in Coon Rapids. If you're interested and want to get started on June 15th, CLICK HERE to sign up or sign up by phone at 763-785-7882. You do NOT need to be a member of the YMCA to take this class. Members do get the class at a discounted rate. If you can not make all 7 weeks of the class, the YMCA will pro-rate your class so you do not pay for the weeks that you cannot attend.
