How To Dress For Your Family Portrait

By Jennifer Hansen - Divine Photography November 10, 2011

Dress in timeless clothing so you don't look back 10 years from now and wonder what you were thinking ;)  Your portrait should be something that can be proudly displayed for many years.

It is important to keep the colors of your clothing choices in the same tonal range and color to keep the portrait more visually appealing.

Keep jewelry simple and wear 3/4 length or long sleeves so bare skin doesn't distract from the face.

Solid colors photograph best.  Bold stripes and prints are visually confusing and do not photograph well.  Outdoor portraits usually look best with casual attire.  Ladies, add just a touch more lipstick and blush so it shows up in your portrait.  Again, keep it simple.

Darker colors are slimming, lighter colors make the subject appear heavier.
