The holiday season is upon us and that means it's time to come together to make this Christmas season magical for the local families who need a little extra help this year.
Over the years, with the support of the community, Toys for Joy has provided thousands of kids in the Anoka County area with toys and food during the holiday season.
Toys for Joy is a 501(c)(3) charitable program that was started back in 1986 by the North Metro Realtor Association. They have made it their mission to assist families in the North Anoka County area who may not be able to provide gifts and food to their children during the holiday season.
The Christmas Committee began collecting toys and food for those in need and soon they realized that what they collected wasn't sufficient enough to cover the growing needs of our community. So they began to host fundraisers such as a golf tournament, annual auction and more to ensure they could gather more funds throughout the year for the holiday season.
Tens of thousands of dollars are raised and used to brighten the lives of children up to the age of 18 each year. Several schools and businesses in the area hold food drives and offer a place to drop off donations to be collected. Well over 1000 families and 4000 children are assisted through Toys for Joy each year. They attend the Christmas distribution event held at the Anoka Armory for local families being supported.
If you are a family in need this holiday season, you have until midnight on Nov. 24th, 2024 to apply for assistance through Toys for Joy. It's quick and easy to apply here.
