Star Wars: In Concert

Review

July 15, 2010

I was invited to go to the Star Wars In Concert show at the Xcel Energy Center this past weekend.  I brought my son, Alex, who just turned 8 on Saturday and, of course, is a very big Star Wars fan like many other 8 year old boys.  He was very excited to get the chance to see this show.  He put on his Star Wars shirt and off we went!  We got to Xcel and there were so many little boys there wearing their Star Wars gear and even some in thier Darth Vader and other Star Wars costumes.  Hey, there were even adults there in costume!  It was great to see all of these avid Star Wars fans in one place.  Of course I had to buy Alex a small light saber to wear around his neck and swing around throughout the show.  We toured all of the great costumes and props  displayed around the halls of the Xcel Center and took many pictures with each costume and some backgrounds that they had placed.  We watched videos of how the characters were created on TV screens that they had set up around the halls, also.  It was very interesting to see how it all came about.  Alex was fascinated by all of the costumes and videos.  He really learned a lot that he didn't know about Star Wars.  We were also able to view handwritten sheet music from Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace.  It was an exhibit that was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.  It was a great experience for my young Star Wars fan even before we headed to our seats!

We took our seats and the full symphony orchestra came on stage and amazed us!  We were both mezmerized by the music and on screen Star Wars scenes on the giant screen.  A three-story high screen!!  It was amazing to see and hear the orchestra play the Star Wars music live.  Anthony Daniels did a great job narrating the show.  He was funny and witty throughout the show and introduced each scene with great enthusiasm.  Anthony Daniels is the actor who portrayed C-3PO in all 6 Star Wars films.  Alex was very excited to see him and was listening carefully to every word he said.  He even pleased the crowd with a C-3PO impression on stage.

Overall the show was a huge success!  The laser beams, Star Wars footage and live orchestra music all combined together to make a fantastic show.  The costume and prop exhibits and Star Wars fans in costume all added to a great experience for any Star Wars fan!  I will definitely return to take my big kid (aka my husband) the next time this show comes to town!
